Family Community Theatre

Goal: $15,000.00

Specific Need

The FCT endowment fund income is used to support the general budget of the Family Community Theatre. However, we would like to increase our endowment so the income could be used to hire a Summer Activities Director.  During the summer we have a number of activities which require leadership - 4 sessions of Play in the Park,  a week long Summer Academy, in the future a week long workshop for the clients of Horizons.  These activities along with the regularly scheduled productions create a very busy time of the year.

Profile

The Family Community Theatre is a non-profit, 501 (C)(3) organization. The incorporated name is HCT, Inc. (Hutchinson Children’s Theatre). Over the years the name has evolved from the original to Hutchinson Family Children’s Theatre, Family Children’s Theatre, and now which the board of directors feels better represents our mission, Family Community Theatre (FCT). The FCT operates as a community theatre with a season of six productions mainstage productions each year. In addition, two specific shows are produced specifically for young actors ages 6-12.  In many, if not most, our cast are multi-generational. In our most recent production, Puffs, of the 25 cast members 16 of the cast members are 15 or younger. In the February 2024 production of Oliver! the cast was evenly split between adults and younger actors/actresses. 

The organization was established in 1988 by Patrick McCreary. The organization is run by a 15 member volunteer board of directors. We have no paid employees with the exception of contracted directors, choreographers, music directors and occassionally a pit orchestra. Since its inception the theatre has produced 225 mainstage shows plus many specific youth productions, melodramas, and murder mysteries. In thirty-four years the Family Community Theatre has had approximately 3900 individuals who have participated in and contributed their talents to the productions , the number of audience members who have attended our productions since 2001 nearly 128,000 more than 5600 per year.These metrics would indicate the FCT has been having an positive affect on our community. The FCT can boast several three generation families participating in the productions.

The FCT owns the Flag Theatre. The 1930's area theatre have been remodeled to accomodate live performances. In 2006 the facade and marquee were remodeled. Since that time, electronic message boards have been placed on the end caps of the marquee and a new electronic message board graces the from of the marquee. The lobby has been remodeled and completed in 2021.
