Goal: $20,000.00

Specific Need

Our goal is to raise 20,000 that can specifically be used to cover medical expenses for animals that are adoptable if they are healed and would allow us not to worry that we don’t have the funding to cover their cost of treatment.

Our budget is designed to cover the cost of basic care, vaccines, deworming and spay/neuter surgeries for the animals in our care, however we often take in animals that have greater medical needs than what fit our budget. Sadly, we cannot afford, nor do we have unlimited time, volunteers, or space to treat every injured animal that comes to us. We understand that not everything is medically salvageable or treatable.

Examples of this include animals that have been seriously injured and might need an amputation, radiographs, urinalysis, bladder stone surgeries, eyeball enucleations, sever ear infections, wounds and specialty foods or medications that our budget cannot afford. These medical needs save these animals’ lives and prevent suffering. Our average medical bill for treatment that is not budgeted for is $450 to $1000 per animal pending the extent of their injuries and treatment plan. We work with Prairie Vista Animal Hospital, Central KS VCA, K-State Veterinary Medical Team, and Dr. Bruce's Mobile veterinary services. All of which deeply care about the animals we treat and support our mission.

Mission

The misson of the Hutchinson Animal Shelter is to inspire community compassion and respect for animals, to improve their quality of life and to stop animal suffering and homelessness through education, Spay/Neuter, rehoming and adoption services.

Profile

We strive to promote the humane treatment of people and animals through education, advocacy, enforcement of local and state animal welfare laws and provide a pet food bank, lost and found connections, rehoming, adoption and humane euthanasia services to this community.

Hutchinson Animal Services consists of our Animal Control department and our Animal Shelter. The Animal Control department serves this community in field by enforcing local and state level animal laws, humane education, connecting lost pets with their owners in field before bringing them to the shelter. Animal Control officers investigate crimes against animals and bite cases in our community and pick up lost/stray dogs from running loose on the streets.

The Animal Shelter houses and cares for domestic animals that come to our care via owner surrendered, lost, stray, abandoned, and seized pets from cruelty and neglect cases. We manage a foster program, volunteer program, and a humane education program for school children. The shelter is an open intake facility serving all of Hutchinson, meaning we take in domestic animals in all conditions. Some animals come to us perfectly happy, healthy, and adoptable, but we also take in aggressive, fearful, unsocialized, injured or contagiously sick animals. We evaluate the needs of each animal individually to decide what is the best outcome for the animal, and communities’ sake. We frequently work with other shelters and breed specific rescues to help place animals that may need more than what we can provide. We strive to be a recourse for this community of people and pets, aim to keep pets with their families and when this is not possible, we strive to find new safe loving homes for the animals in our care.
